I went into this game without reading the author comments first. After completing the first work cycle, I could see the tone it was going for. I liked how you either try to read what your coworkers are saying or keep up your productivity to try to stay ahead. As far as I know, it didn't look like the happiness level made a difference in gameplay even when it was getting worse and worse. Would have been cool if the screen got messier/harder to navigate due to being "distracted" from poor living conditions. I also had the audio cut out midway through like others have mentioned. Overall a very neat game.
